Maracuya — the sensual fruit of passion is coming to your hard seltzer
For our premiere in the hard seltzer market, we wanted something with temperament, something extraordinary — an exotic. Since mango was already taken by some of our competitors (too many), we decided on passion fruit after much deliberation.
Colloquially, maracuya is commonly referred to as passion fruit, although this is not entirely accurate — every maracuya is a passion fruit, but not every passion fruit is a maracuya. There are numerous subspecies, which are divided into the two main varieties of purple and yellow or golden passion fruit. "Maracuya" means passion fruit in Spanish, which only adds to the confusion, as the purple fruit is particularly common on the North American continent. Fun fact: botanically speaking, the maracuya is not even a fruit, but a berry, but who really wants to listen to botanists? After all, tomatoes are considered fruit, or fruit vegetables — who can keep track of all these definitions? For the sake of simplicity, let's agree on fruit, because tropical fruit also sounds much better than tropical berry. Maracuya is cultivated worldwide, and the plant, which incidentally bears beautiful flowers, thrives primarily in tropical soils. Maracuya is excellently suited for mixed drinks and feels right at home with almost anything in a glass. The fruit of passion gives spirits and alcohol a tropical kick.
