Elderflower — the sweet blossom of relaxation arrives as a hard seltzer
To continue the Sparklys success story, we wanted something that felt closer to our roots; something that exudes the charm of our homeland. Rosemary, wild garlic, thyme, and valerian were too edgy for us and don't fit into hard seltzer half as well as elderflower.
We spent a long time thinking about which flavor we wanted to enrich the world with next. We exchanged ideas about the most exotic and craziest flavor combinations, and it took a mountain hike and a crowning glass of elderflower syrup after a job well done for the flash of inspiration to hit us. Greeks, Romans, and Germanic tribes all believed that good spirits lived in the elder tree, and we can only subscribe to that view—after all, the original spirit of the times resides in our little can of Sparklys Hard Seltzer Elderflower. The Christians, those old killjoys, called the innocent little plant the Devil's Tree, because Judas supposedly hanged himself from one. In the Swiss Alpine region, the elder tree was also referred to as a gateway to the afterlife; which we can somehow understand—the taste of elderflower is, after all, one worth dying for.
Elderflower is said to have numerous health benefits: in the Middle Ages, for example, it was believed that toothaches could be transferred to an elder branch by biting it, thereby relieving one of the pain. With the advent of science, such effects of "Holler," as the blossom is also known in German vernacular, were declared superstition. Today, we speak of a mild and pleasant effect that helps with respiratory diseases, as well as kidney and liver problems. Now, in the end, it must be mentioned that to benefit from all these health advantages, you should consume real elderflower and not hard seltzer.
