Please don’t destroy Hard Seltzer — humor and a pinch of truth

October 12, 2021

In a hilarious sketch by the comedians from “Please don’t destroy” on the latest episode of SNL (Saturday Night Live), the hard seltzer boom in the US is thoroughly poked fun at. Everyone has their own hard seltzer out now, apparently including the US department store chain J.C.Penney, with the less-than-delicious flavor of “Men’s Jackets.” Hmm... I’ll take a Sparklys Passion Fruit instead.

Every major alcohol producer seems to have jumped on the hard seltzer bandwagon; Bud Light, Corona, Smirnoff, Boston Beer, to name just a few on the American market. A new development now involves soft drink manufacturers who also want a piece of the pie: PepsiCo's Hard Mtn Dew, Coca-Cola Co.'s Topo Chico Hard Seltzer, AriZona SunRise Hard Seltzer, and Spindrift Spiked Water are just a few of them. Given the increasingly bewildering density of hard seltzer brands, you can hardly blame the comedians from "Please Don't Destroy" for making fun of it. Damn — even we can laugh at it, even if we are breaking into a sweat ourselves. In Switzerland, the competition may still be manageable, but several brands are already fighting over the market, which is relatively small compared to its big brother, beer. It remains to be seen which brands will prevail in the future and whether we will soon have to reckon with hard seltzer from Charles Vögele or Dosenbach — please, no foot-sweat flavor! Please, please don't do it. We at Sparklys prefer conventional flavors that can still be adventurous, like our elderflower or passion fruit flavors.

Find out now just how much better conventional flavors taste compared to men's jackets, support Swiss companies, and try a Sparklys hard seltzer.
