Keto diet and hard seltzer — life hack with cheat code
On social media, in health forums, podcasts, and discussions with the fitness fanatic next door, the term ketosis is popping up more and more frequently. Here’s what it’s all about and why you don’t have to give up a Sparklys Hard Seltzer while doing it.
What is ketosis?
A conventional metabolism derives its energy primarily from sugar (glucose). When fasting, however, this process in the body switches after about 24 hours, and the body begins to burn mainly fatty acids instead of glucose — you are now in ketosis. The advantage is that the body can utilize this energy source better, more efficiently, and more cleanly than glucose. You don't necessarily have to fast to enjoy the benefits of ketosis, and that's where the keto diet comes in. This describes a form of nutrition (ketogenic) used to maintain this state for as long as desired. A ketogenic diet includes healthy fats (avocado, various nuts, coconut, chia, olives, etc.), a small amount of protein, and a minimum of carbohydrates. With the appropriate diet, it takes about 3 days for the body to transition into ketosis. During this time, glycogen reserves are depleted before the body begins producing ketone bodies.
How does Sparklys fit into the picture?
Hard seltzer is gluten-free, low in sugar and calories, and can therefore be combined much better with a ketogenic diet than other alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine, or cider. This view is largely shared by experts and nutritionists. After all, we want to provide accurate information and not just sugarcoat our product. Given the many restrictions in the diet and lifestyle of mere mortals who aren't competing in an Ironman or the Olympics but simply want to try something new and improve their well-being, it might come as a relief that you don't have to renounce everything. Mind you: We are by no means claiming that hard seltzer is a supplement within the diet! It should rather be seen as a relaxing balance that you can allow yourself with a clear conscience, without losing sight of your goal. Health does not necessarily mean abstinence.
What should be kept in mind?
How quickly someone transitions into ketosis depends on their individual metabolism. In healthy people without pre-existing conditions, there are no health risks associated with such a dietary change. Nevertheless, we advise you to inform yourself on relevant portals, compare information, and, if necessary, speak with a medical professional. Keto is more than just a health or diet hype. It stands for a change in attitude towards life and our relationship with nutrition — it sounds almost like hard seltzer in relation to alcohol. The advantages are numerous and outweigh the limitations. Plus — you don't even have to give up everything.
Treat yourself to a few cans of Sparklys hard seltzer as part of your keto diet now, or use them as motivation to see it through if you are just starting out.
